Environmental Excellence is about so many factors in your home. A big factor in environmental housing is HIA Greensmart Professional accreditation. In 2017, our Master Builder Michael Moriarty won the National Award for Greensmart Professional of the Year.
The HIA GreenSmart Awards recognise the diligent efforts of environmentally-aware residential builders, designers and manufacturers. The Awards recognise those who build or design environmentally-friendly homes, provide solutions to make homes more efficient or create new products for the building industry.
HIA GreenSmart is a program offering up-to-date information on practical, affordable and durable environmental solutions for residential design and construction. As one of Australia’s first professional green building initiatives, the program offers a HIA accredited training course for builders and designers wanting to develop new skills and acquire green credentials, and get access to news and opportunities to help promote your services in the marketplace.
At Killarney, Master Builder Michael Moriarty is no stranger to building green and building smart. A forward-thinking and enthusiastic GreenSmart Professional, Michael was the first builder in the Northern Territory to install solar hot water systems as standard – refusing to install inefficient systems. Michael is an expert in minimising cost and waste on his jobs.

What’s in the display homes? Our display homes features all the aspects of good design above the Tropic of Capricorn – deep shade, good insulation and excellent airflow throughout the property. The home has been designed to have virtually no bills from electricity thanks to the PV system on site and materials chosen during construction. We designed the home to allow the air to freely move through the property. It also features deep shady eaves throughout the property, keeping the tropical sun off the walls as much as possible. Our displays have a focus on eliminating not just wasted resources, but to ensure the resources used made the most of the material. To this extent, there is open space with a minimum of hallways, strong natural surveillance principles and an ability to control conditioned space easily. |
